JUDGING

Must-follow rules:

  1. All presentations must be in English. Presenters will not be judged on their fluency in English, but they will be judged on their ability to communicate their ideas to an English-speaking audience.

  2. Props, costumes, and special video effects are not allowed. Pictures and graphs are allowed only if they are absolutely necessary for the audience's understanding of the speech.

  3. Please make sure the upper half of your body is visible in the video.
  4. Video cuts are not allowed: the entire video must be in one take.

Judging criteria:

  1. Did the presentation provide an understanding of the background and significance of the topic being described, while explaining terminology and avoiding jargon?

  2. Did the presentation clearly describe the topic?

  3. Did the presentation follow a clear and logical sequence?
  4. Was the topic communicated in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience?
  5. Did the presenter spend adequate time on each element of the presentation – or did they spend too long on one aspect or was the presentation rushed?
  6. Did the presenter make the viewer want to know more?
  7. Did the presenter convey enthusiasm for their topic?
  8. Did the presenter capture and maintain the viewer’s attention?
